ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
GREENHOUSE GAS, RECYCLING AND SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
At Motion, we understand that caring for the world where we live is vital. As such, we have started down a more structured path with an experienced third-party provider to baseline our greenhouse gas emissions. As part of our daily operations and growth strategy, we are already monitoring some aspects, such as fuel and travel costs. This additional insight will allow us to create appropriate targets for reduction and better align our financial strategy with these elements.
There are several areas where we are continuing to reduce overall emissions as a result of good business practices. Some of these areas include:
-
- Focused programs on waste management and recycling
- Retrofitting or designing new locations with LED lighting and building management systems
- Replacing gas powered fork trucks with electric
- Providing Energy Team services to our customers
In addition, we are in the beginning phases of a new project to work collaboratively with our Tier 1 suppliers to evaluate and reduce packaging and dunnage and improve logistics where feasible.
2023 SCOPE 1 & 2 BASELINE
EMISSION BASELINE
Motion, in conjunction with a third party consultant, established baseline emissions for:
-
- Scope 1: Direct Emissions from Operations and Fleet
- Scope 2: Indirect Emissions from Purchased Power, Heating, and Fuel
At this time, the data encompasses North America. As part of our strategic planning, we will review our operations against best practices and establish a path for reduction.
At this time, we are still reviewing Scope 3. As a distributor of product rather than a manufacturer, the majority of our emissions are expected to fall in Scope 3. This is much more difficult to calculate as it encompasses both upstream and downstream activities including use of product, product end-of-life, and logistics. For those items where we have more control, such as employee commuting and business travel, we are actively reviewing this data to determine optimal efficiencies.
